Instruction:
We offer private or group lessons 12 months a year from our location
on Lambert's Cove (or from any other island location as requested by the
participant). Paddlers can use their own boats or rent from us. Cost is
$35/hr plus $25/kayak rental if necessary. Most lessons last a minimum of 2
hours covering various topics according to the student's experience and
ability: |
Beginner:
Introduction to equipment, boat entry and exit, boat stability, forward and
reverse strokes, sweep strokes, capsize and wet exit, assisted and solo
recoveries, local paddling conditions.
Intermediate:
Refinement and analysis of basic strokes. Review of assisted and solo
recoveries. Introduction to braces, draw strokes, and the Eskimo roll.
Introduction to navigation techniques, tides and currents, wind and waves,
other local paddling conditions.
Advanced Intermediate:
Refinement of assisted and solo recoveries including Eskimo rolls.
Introduction to surf technique including ruddering, launching and landing.
Introduction to racing technique. Introduction to multi-day tripping
including packing, route planning, low-impact camping. Former surf kayak champion, Wayne Horodowich, occasionally joins us for informative and fun four-day workshops. Each day has a slightly different focus, offering something for every paddler. Please call or e-mail us for more information. |
