The Martha's Vineyard Oar & Paddle Association is an informal group of dedicated rowers and kayakers who organize and participate in social and paddling adventures. The group has enjoyed many trips in various local waters. Annual events include the "North Shore Cruise" (paddle or row from Menemsha to Lake Tashmoo), scheduled for a Sunday in mid-June (call or e-mail for exact date), the July
4 fireworks evening paddle (from bend-in-the-road State Beach to
Edgartown and back under the stars), and the popular MVOP Annual Regatta
held on the last Sunday in August, a week BEFORE Labor Day weekend. The Regatta consists of races of many classes involving kayaks, rowing shells, and traditional pulling boats. Boaters of every age and ability are encouraged to participate. All proceeds benefit local non-profits involved with conservation of local waters. Past beneficiaries include the Friends of Sengekontacket and Tisbury Waterways, Inc.
